BioHelix Corporation Launches IsoAmp® RUO Rapid Staph Detection Kit.

Staphylococcus aureus is the most common causative microbe for hospital acquired infections and is becoming increasingly more resistant to antibiotics. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, known as MRSA, or the "superbug", has been linked to approximately 100,000 staph infections and over 18,000 deaths across the United States each year. Timely diagnosis of staph and MRSA can save lives. It can currently take up to an additional 24 to 48 hours to diagnose a staph infection in the blood stream after a blood culture becomes positive.

BioHelix's IsoAmp® Rapid Staph Detection Kit and companion mecA Detection Kit aid in the rapid identification of staph and methicillin-resistance in blood culture. The kit contains all the reagents and disposable detection cassettes necessary for the rapid identification of the staph and/or mecA genes. The workflow of the IsoAmp Staph kit consists of three simple steps:

1) Simple sample-prep (dilute 1:4 and heat, < 10 minutes);
2) Isothermal amplification (65°C, = 60 minutes);
3) Rapid detection via the BESt™ cassette (< 10 minutes).

Advantages of the IsoAmp® Rapid Staph Detection Kit include:

  • Nearly Instrument Free-does not require any special equipment.
  • Rapid Assay Format-total turnaround time is less than 1.5 hours.
  • High Sensitivity and Specificity.
  • Simple Readout - test result shown as colored lines (similar to a pregnancy test).
  • Cross-contamination-proof - uses a novel disposable detection cassette.
